Getting into fantasy RPGs like D&D 5e starts with character sheets, rulebooks, and bookkeeping. A lot of people want the world and the story, not a spreadsheet to maintain.
I built Grimward as a card-based TTRPG, close to 5e, without a character sheet. Ancestry, class, subclass, weapons, and spells live on cards. The site ships a hero builder, the rules, a trailer, and a newsletter. An online platform for remote play without a physical deck is in progress.
Players build a hero in minutes and play without a pen. Pre-order at the end of 2026. Remote play follows once the platform is ready.

Project Overview
Grimward is a card-based tabletop RPG. Inspired by the D&D 5e SRD, it keeps familiar mechanics and drops the character sheet. Ancestry, class, subclass, weapon mastery, and spells are cards – ready as soon as you lay them down.
Key Features
- Hero builder: pick ancestry, class, subclass, and weapon mastery
- Six card types that combine into a character
- Rules in the browser, in German and English
- Cards for NPCs, monsters, initiative, hit points, and magic items
- Trailer, newsletter, and quick-start guide
- Planned online platform for remote sessions without a physical deck
Technical Highlights
The site runs on Nuxt with i18n (German/English) and Supabase. The hero builder walks through card selection; the rules read as chapters. Newsletter signup and the quick-start download sit on the same surface.
